The YCL-250 had been the de facto standard student clarinet for well over a decade. At first glance, the new YCL-255 appears to be virtually identical to its predecessor, and for the most part the basic design remains unchanged. Yamaha has made no compromises with their new model. New and Improved
There are two major changes made in the YCL-255, as compared its predecessor, the YCL-250 clarinet: first, the absence of a bell-ring; and second, the addition of an adjustable thumb rest along with a loop to allow it to be used with a neck-strap. The removal of the bell ring is said to improve the resonance and overall sound quality of the clarinet. The adjustable thumb rest accommodates different sized hands, a very helpful feature that enables young players in particular to develop proper playing technique. Traditionally, the clarinet has been played without the use of a neck strap, but more and more players are now using them, and Yamaha responded to the growing shift in this trend by adding a sturdy silver-soldered strap ring to the new YCL-255 clarinet.
